Marcus moved to OKC in 2007 from Guymon, OK to begin work on his Master’s degree in film studies at the University of Central Oklahoma. He is working on a second Master’s degree—this time in Speech and Language Pathology—and teaches writing. Art has always been a part of his life, and before moving to OKC, he finished a BFA in Fine Art from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Marcus’ connection to art runs deep from the time when he could first pick up a crayon and flows into his love for watercolor and mixed media work. His work is influenced by popular culture, comic books, movies, and artistic masterpieces. If he could spend his life in a museum, just looking, he definitely would. Some of Marcus’ artistic inspirations are Amedeo Modigliani’s post-impressionist portraits, the obscure work of surrealist painter Rene Magritte, and the neo-plasticist concoctions of Piet Mondrian. He is happily married to his wife, Leah, with their four, lovely animals. Art surrounds us all, and we can all see it; we just need to simply reach out and grasp it.
